BC: Backplates

Backplates subsidize some weight. Depending on where you are diving makes a difference in which metal you need: steel or aluminum. Steel for cold water and aluminum for warm. You might not need any extra weight at all!

Cold water diving is 70 degrees F or lower 

Warm water is 75 degrees F or higher
