Horn Shark

A very common shark to see in our California waters is the Horn Shark. You will not fins them swimming around gracefully like their cousins. Instead, you will usually find them sitting on the bottom in the sea grass or inside a rocky hole. If they do move, it is very jerky and can almost look like they are walking on the bottom. Ever wonder why some horn sharks are darker than others? Give up? They are sunburnt. Horn sharks that spend more time in shallower depths in the sun are darker than those that stay deeper and in dark holes. Horn sharks get up to 3 feet in length and love to crunch down on crustaceans on the bottom using their uniquely shaped teeth.
