LA County 3R’s: Rocks, Rips and Reefs Class Schedule with Eco Dive Center

Posted by Eco Staff on on Apr 23rd 2026

Southern California shore diving offers some of the most rewarding diving anywhere. Easy beach access, thriving kelp forests, rocky reefs, and local marine life make our coastline a favorite for scuba divers and freedivers alike. The more you understand local conditions, the more enjoyable every dive becomes.

That is why Eco Dive Center is excited to offer the LA County 3R’s: Rocks, Rips and Reefs Class this summer.

This fun and educational program helps divers build confidence, improve site awareness, and gain a better understanding of the beaches and shoreline dive sites we enjoy throughout Los Angeles County.

What Is the 3R’s Class?

The 3R’s (Rocks, Rips and Reefs) program was created to give divers practical knowledge for shore-based diving in Southern California.

Each session is designed to help participants better understand:

  • Local beach and reef layouts
  • Shore entries and exits
  • Seasonal swell and surf patterns
  • Ocean movement and current awareness
  • Site-specific tips for popular dive locations
  • How to plan enjoyable, comfortable local dives

It is a great way to become more familiar with the places many divers visit year after year.

What to Expect

Each class begins with a short land-based seminar covering the selected site and what makes it unique.

Topics may include:

  • Underwater topography and navigation tips
  • Best practices for entering and exiting the water
  • Seasonal ocean conditions
  • Marine environment highlights
  • Helpful local knowledge from experienced staff

Qualified participants can then join the in-water portion, which includes a guided skin diving session and practical ocean awareness exercises.

Local lifeguards may also share updates about the area, beach conditions, and ocean operations.
